This botanic garden featuring Cactus, Agave and Yuccas, as well as other plants typical of the southwestern U.S., is currently in the design phase, as experiments are being conducted to test the survivability of such plants in central Virginia.

Although these plants are typically found in climates with mild winters and little rainfall, a few species are able to survive outdoors year-round in the cold, wet winters of central Virginia (USDA hardiness Zone 7) where typical winter lows are 5° and average monthly rainfall is 4 inches, year round.

Specimens currently being grown and evaluated have been obtained from plants grown outdoors in the states of Arizona, New Mexico and – surprisingly – Nevada, Utah, Washington state and Maryland.

At this time, Cactusland still has a few 2022 "Cactusland: The Thorniest Place in the East" calendars for sale. Please inquire by email for availability and prices.
